— Chimeras, You are Animals! — Barkinado Bocoum X Mamady Seydi @Partcours

For the 11th edition of the Partcours, Loman Art invites the painter Barkinado Bocoum and the sculptor Mamady Seydi to establish a dialogue, to sieve the society of their crossed glances. The result is Chimères, Vous êtes des Animaux!

The visual narration, established in mirror between their universes contributes to look in face what the today makes us - how it undoes us, also. In the game of formal (de)construction to which the two artists lend themselves, the chimeras of our existences win. Painted and sculpted with a corrosive humor, black and yellow, the rules of the social game, its postures, its gestures and its paradoxes are laid bare - women and men too, sent back in their flesh to their animality.

Barkinado Bocoum lives and works in Dakar where he teaches fashion design at the Institut de Coupe Couture et de Mode. In 2005, he graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Dakar. He followed additional training in painting at the Alanus Hoschschule in Bonn (Germany) in 2007 thanks to a scholarship offered by the DAAD; in cultural management at BEM with the British Council.

As a painter, he carefully partitions his paintings as elements of a mosaic, the sum of which reveals his intentions and his undeniable technical mastery of both form and color, with interesting back and forth movements from abstract to figurative, with the objective of common (de)construction.

Winner of the 1st prize of "Africa in question" in 2009 and the International Organization of the Francophonie Prize at the Biennial of Contemporary African Art Dak'Art 2010, Barkinado has participated in several exhibitions, biennials and residencies in France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, England, U.S.A, Morocco, Mali, etc.. His work continues to cross borders, being in several public and private collections including that of the State of Senegal, the Atua Foundation, the Boribana Museum and others. Mamady Seydi was born in Dakar in 1970. He lives in Mbour, but works in Nguékhokh where he has his studio. In 1997, he graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Dakar. His works are often represented as installations and refer to Senegalese proverbs. However, his sculptures are not simple illustrations of sayings, they are inventions. From a question, an affirmation, he multiplies the interpretations, the points of view. They want to mirror a society where it is necessary to constantly, in a somewhat cyclical form, fight against evil, wickedness and human stupidity. It gives us to see, the selfishness, the fall, the beauty, the precariousness, the love, the ferocity, the dependence, the crushing power, the solitude... Mamady is the winner of the Prix de l'Agence Intergouvernementale de la Francophonie at Dak'Art 2000. After 2000, 2002 and in 2006 or he was the winner of the ART OMI International USA). He has participated in several exhibitions and artist residencies in Senegal and internationally. In 2003 he won the first prize at the Salon National des Artistes Plasticiens Sénégalais, Galerie Nationale, Dakar.
