The Gallery Assistant (also called Gallery Attendants) at the Loman Art House creates a welcoming and informative environment for all visitors while overseeing the safety of exhibited artwork. The Gallery Assistant provides a variety of support services to gallery volunteers, interns, staff, Gallery Owner & Operator, as well as artists and vendors. The assignment will include, but is not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Administrative services ranging from ordering office or retail supplies, answering phone inquiries, issuing, and managing written correspondences, to setting up or confirming appointments or event schedules with artists, vendors, clients or visitors, training volunteers, or liaise with local suppliers/contractors and update contact data base.
Exhibits, logistics, and events services ranging from helping install exhibits, monitoring shipments, unpacking pieces for display, or packing and shipping pieces previously on display to arranging caterers for special events, creating event schedules, coordinating various event participants, liaising with local suppliers and contractors, and updating contact databases.
Public relations services ranging from issuing press releases, maintaining online social media accounts, mailing lists and website, or greeting visitors to giving gallery tours, assisting with the purchase and sale of artwork, managing art orders, preparing sold artwork for shipment or following up with customers to confirm the successful arrival and good condition of sold pieces.
Other duties ranging from helping maintain the appearance of the gallery, monitoring and protecting artworks and other artifacts, supporting the Art Café as needed to performing any additional professional tasks assigned by the Gallery Owner & Operator.
Terms
It is full-time position (40 hours per week). Exact dates will be negotiated upon candidate selection.
Hours
The Gallery Assistant has a flexible schedule based around the Gallery’s regular public hours, including evenings and weekends, with additional accommodations for exhibit schedules.

Qualifications
Tech-literate, savvy and innovative
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and French are required.
Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment and to maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Flexible and strong team player with excellent organization and communication skills
Maintain discipline to complete task independently with attention to detail.
Flexible to work some nights and weekend hours.
Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Previous gallery, social media management, or organizational experience is a plus
Have a familiarity with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Important Information
Salary: Negotiable with optional housing supplement (private bedroom).
Travel: The candidate will arrange and finance their travel to the work location if needed.
Medical insurance: The candidate must present proof of valid medical insurance to Loman Art House management upon returning the signed employment contract.
